Planning the details on a full size drawing that I will be working from to create the copper figure.
I start by tapping in some details from the outer side of the piece then add texture but tapping out from the inside.
Next, I smooth the texture and shape the parts appropriately. This part allows me lots of creativity, and it’s one of the more enjoyable parts of creating the weathervane.
The body is soldered together and the 8 parts for the legs are hammered out and also ready to be soldered together.
Once the figure is completed, it is cleaned then the chemicals are applied to create a black patina which is then hand rubbed with very fine steel wool until the natural browns appear.
