A loose based replica of the rooster weathervane of Dom Cathedral in Latvia for Clients of Intersect Studio
I’ve hand cut the right and left profile of the rooster from copper sheet.
I start by texturing and stretching the copper into the shape in my mind.
Once the two sides are shaped they are soldered together.
I shape pieces with complex curves to fit into the back and front so that I can keep a good amount of body in the neck, then I fit and solder them into place.
As each feather is individually hand cut, textured, and shaped in two parts per feather it is amazing how much time is into making them.
The tail feathers have been assembled and attached to the rooster body as well as the comb and waddles.
Detailing and priming the weathervane for gold leaf.
Gilding the rooster. I use 23karat double gold leaf.
The completed Old Country Rooster Weathervane.
