An image of the actual antique eagle sculpture the weathervane is being based on.
Working from a drawing of the original design, each part of the eagle is carefully hand cut from Revere copper.
All the detail lines are hand tapped into the copper sheet.
Comparing the work to the drawing.
Texture and body are added from inside out.
The two halves are almost ready to assemble.
Soldering the two halves of the eagle together.
Assembling the Eagle and arrow.
Preparing the eagle for gold leaf. The copper is chemically and mechanically cleaned then coated with a gold tinted zinc rich primer for non ferrous metal.
The gold used is almost pure at 23 karats and is applied to the eagle one 3″ square leaf at a time. The piece is then hand burnished to blend all the leaves into a solid gold coating. A high quality clear coat seals and protects the finish.
The completed Gilt Folk Art Eagle Weathervane.
