This was modeled after the historic pilot schooner ‘Varuna’. Launched in 1890 in Chelsea Mass. Famous for being the only pilot boat to survive the famous “Portland” storm in 1898 when captain William Fairfield had himself lashed to the wheel for 24 hours continuously, saved his ship, and put a pilot aboard an incoming ship the following morning. 

Hand-carved redwood hull with a wonderful hand-painted finish with a great patina. Copper sails with brass lines. This size is easily collectible and displayed. 

Early weathervanes served as a means for predicting the weather by monitoring wind direction. By the 19th century, they became recognized for their beauty and importance to American history and have since become very collectible.
