This is my weathervane design of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Logo that I am creating for for the Alvarez family.
I draw the parts of the design onto copper sheet then each part of the figure is precisely hand cut.
I start by hammering detail into the face of the copper then hammer from the backside to texture and stretch it.
Each of the appendages requires 2 pieces to be formed.
Arms, a leg, and a sneaker.
Antennae and wings.
Mounting the body and attaching the arms and legs.
Creating the finish; I darken the copper with a Sulphur solution then prime the areas to receive gold leaf and enamel. The photo at right shows the Bee’s head being gilt.
