Hi Folks, I started the 52 with a great photo to work from. I’ve been staring at that photo since I found it. There are so many ways to build a replica. I hope you like what I came up with.
I’ve decided to sculpt each side in complete shallow relief. The first step is to chase in the details from the exterior-in.
I was tempted to hammer the piece smooth, but decided to use texture to make the piece more interesting. A textured piece will complement the style of your barn.
I believe the weathervanes I have textured are most commonly my best work. The figure at the point shown in the photo is about 3/4 completed.
The sides are done and soldered together. The image shows the benefit to sculpting the sides completely; the amount of solder showing is minimum.
