Kids and Vanes – Science

Kids and Vanes science Projects

What do Weathervanes Tell Us?

Using a weathervane, make some daily observations. Every morning check the wind direction. Print out this page and record the type of weather you observed while checking the weathervane. Do this for two weeks. At the end of two weeks, you should be able to group the types of weather by the compass heading. Remember that winds bring weather from different parts of the globe. If your weathervane is pointing to the “N” it indicates that the weather is coming from the North. Each compass point will usually bring the same kind of weather. For example, North always brings cooler weather. This is the project. Find out what kinds of weather comes from the compass points. Cold or hot, wet or dry, sunny or cloudy, and so on. Good luck and have fun!
