Copper Weathervanes Installation
DIRECT METHOD (BEST)
1.) Bore a plumb hole into your ridge or peak the diameter of the supplied post. Most posts are 3/4" diameter. Larger vanes may require a 7/8" diameter. The thinner diameter rod portion goes up This is the spindle for the figure. Depth should be 6" - 8" for 18" - 20" posts or 10" - 14" for 28" posts. Install a 2x4 with hole bored half way through to seat post if the depth exceeds the existing wood at the peak.
2.) Inject 100% silicone caulking into the hole.
3.) Embed post by pushing it into the hole. Caulk around seal. (Do not hit spindle tip with hammer).
4.) Assemble weathervane onto post.
Do you need a different size post? (To Weathervane Posts)
1.) Use a vise to bend saddle mounts to correct pitch. Using mount as a template, position mount in desired location and drill mounting holes. Use a good quality 100% adhesive silicone caulk between mount and roofing. Temporarily insert post in mount and utilize to properly plumb. Use enclosed screws or better and securely fasten to building.
2.) Using a sharp hacksaw and a vice, trim post so that it extends no more than 16" above mount (not including spindle). Slide post into mount and secure screws. Caulk at joint.
3.) Refer to assembly instructions to complete installation.
